The mills of Schiedam used to be used for the jenever industry of Schiedam. Today, they are used to produce energy. Mill Nolet is the highest mill in Schiedam and also the highest in the world, because it is more than 43 meters high. We also know the following mills in Schiedam:
1. The Drie Koornbloemen, built in 1770 and thus the oldest existing mill inSchiedam. The mill has been restored and the wooden interior was repaired in2007.
2. The palm tree, built in 1781. It currently houses a museum, namely the Museum mill De Nieuwe Palmboom.
3. De Vrijheid, built in 1785 by order of a number of burners. De Vrijheid is now owned by the municipality of Schiedam and occasionally still runs on weekends.
4. The Walvisch, built in 1794. Since 2002 there is a mill shop in this mill that sells a lot of nice things besides flour.
5. The North, built in 1803. This mill was placed as a replacement for De Noort Moole of 1707. The Noord is 33.3 meters high, making it the second largest mill in the world. 6. De Noord is now a restaurant.
