2021 must be a great sports year: here is a list of the major sporting events for the year 2021 hosted in The Netherlands.

April

Amstel Gold Race

On Sunday the 18th of April 2021 the Amstel Gold Race will be held in Limburg. The Amstel Gold Race is a Dutch one-day cycling classic for professional cyclists, which has been held annually in the Limburg hills since 1966. The name of the race origins from the main sponsor, the Amstel beer brand. People started calling the Amstel race the Amstel Gold Raas after The Dutchman Jan Raas won the race five times, which was a record.  

June

FBK Games

June is a month full of sport events in the Netherlands. On the 6th of June the FBK Games will be held in Hengelo. FBK stand for Fanny Blankers-Koen, who was a Dutch athlete. In 1948 the ‘Flying Dutchmam’ won four gold medals at the Olympic Games in London. At the European championships she won a total of five gold medals, divided over four different parts. The competition consisting of various athletics components on an international level will be held in the FBK stadium.  

European Championship Hockey

The sixteen best European hockey teams (eight women's and eight men's teams) participate in the double European Championship Hockey from the 4th until the 13th of June. All games will be held in

The Wagener Stadium. This venue was also the backdrop for the European Championship in 2017, where both the Orange Men and the Orange Women became European Champions.

Special Olympics

From the 11th of June until the 13th, the largest multi-sport event for people with intellectual disabilities in the Netherlands will take place in The Hague this year. For three days, competitions will be organised in no fewer than eighteen sports in Sportcampus Zuiderpark, the Hofbad, Sporthal Ockenburgh and other sports facilities in The Hague.

TT Assen

One of the most iconic Grands Prix in motorsport is on the program again this year in June. In Assen, three different classes compete for the win. The games will be held the 27th of June and this will be the 90th edition of the only Grand Prix in the world that has always been on the World Cup calendar. Besides the race itself, 165,000 motorcycle fans will be in Assen for three days to celebrate at multiple festivities.

UEFA European Football Championship

On the 11th of June a month of UEFA European Football Championship games will start. The championship will be held in multiple football stadiums in Europe, including the Johan Cruijf ArenA in Amsterdam. The Netherlands will play against Ukraine on the 13th, against Austria on the 16th and against Northern-Macedonia on the 21st of June, all hosted in Amsterdam.  

August

WK BMX

Shortly after the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the BMX riders move to Papendal for the world championship. Papendal has been setting the standard for BMX events for years. This year the event will take place from the 14th to the 22nd of August.  

September

GP Formula 1

The Grand Prix of the Netherlands is a Formula 1 race that was held thirty times between 1952 and 1985. After an absence of 35 years, the race returns to the Circuit Zandvoort on the 5th of September. The Dutch Grand Prix (DGP) is determent to make a the first race a festive event. Together with the best Dutch DJs and artists, they will be throwing a big party during the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix. Visitors can enjoy the best entertainment in the Netherlands throughout the weekend.

KLM Open

KLM Open will again take place in 2021. The 101st edition of the international golf tournaments will be played for the first time on the Bernardus Golf course in Cromvoirt, from the 16th until the 19th of September.
